Q. Will you test a driver for me?
A. Maybe. I accept test samples of new or interesting drivers from vendors and individuals. In other words, I'm not interested in testing a Vifa P17 or any other driver that has been around. By agreement, results of each test will be reported back to the person who sent the driver(s) and must remain confidential unless I decide that the driver is a winner. Only outstanding test results will be posted. Drivers that I determine are poor performers must remain confidential, and not be posted, publicly discussed or shared with anyone else in any way. Limitations are as follows: Note that some drivers don't fit into the regular comparison groups, but would be tested in the best way I see fit and results reported individually.
Don't send a driver if you're afraid of poor results damaging the value. Don't send a driver if you spent an uncomfortable amount of money and you have an emotional involvement with the price tag. Don't send a driver if you disagree with my testing methodology or think that testing won't show any useful information about a driver's sound quality. Don't request that I test a driver without offering to send one. I'm happy to work with everyone else. Vendors are particularly welcome, as I generally only hear from the ones that have confidence in the performance of their own products. I hope it's crystal clear: I am only interested in dealing with folks who are prepared to face and accept poor test results. Of course, I hope for the best and I'm always happy to be the bearer of good news.
A few quick terms: US residents only, to keep return shipping simple. You pay shipping to and back. If you want the drivers back, preprinted return shipping labels must be provided and included in the shipping box. I will also accept emailed return shipping labels. I will not accept a check or cash to cover shipping, I want preprinted UPS or Fedex labels only. Absolutely no USPS. Turn around time is about 1 week from the start of the test grouping, but may be up to a month depending on my schedule. Do not send drivers if you have concern about how soon you get them back. Pack the drivers well and in a box that is sturdy enough to use for return shipping. 1 woofer is ok, but 2 is better for a consistency check. The same test methods as the existing group will be used. I am not responsible for damage in shipping. I'm also not responsible for damage during testing, but I am gentle with the drivers. I will accept test samples from other countries, but only if it is not required to return the drivers.
If you have one or two to send, please contact me via email at
